LO2 Treatment

Natures Voice

Theme and Subject

We have been asked to create a piece of photography which will be showed at the Millennium Gallery, in link to the theme being identity. My final idea is based on double exposure and showing double meanings as well as underlying themes, but I especially want to show underlying emotions and the contrast between two images, whether it be emotionally or visually conflicting. But even more specifically I want to show the contrast between nature and civilisation, which is why I will combine city/street photography and landscape, I will show this through portrait photography.  I am going to be using double exposure throughout the whole of the five images, I have already explained all the details of my photography setup and all the details in my presentation explaining my ideas including; depth of field, shutter speed, aperture, framing, orientation, composition, shot type, angle, locations and models. The genre for my photography will be combining portrait and landscape/street photography, I am able to combine these genres because of the aspect of double exposure.

Target Audience

The target audience of my photography is generally the younger audience being aged 15-20+ so the teenage audience and young adults, this is because my photography is visually interesting and has underlying themes and connotations that may interest them. My target audience will be predominantly white British people in terms of ethnicity, because my photography will be on display at a local art gallery in Sheffield, unless tourists come to visit the exhibition that will be my main target audience. I'm assuming my audience will be an ABC1 audience, as if they are to enjoy art and galleries, that may suggest they would buy some of the work which is generally expensive so they would have to have a high paying job and be part of the ABC1 audience. Also in terms of the interests of my target audience, they will be interested in galleries and photography, possibly creating art themselves and extensions of this would be reading and creatively writing.

Key Milestones

My key milestones need to be planned out before taking the photographs, which contains the planning and the key events that should take place including and before the shoot and the editing of the photographs. Roughly the key dates will be as followed, may change:
- Plan the photographs (Sketches) - 29th January
-Scout the location - 29th January
-Recce of the area - 29th January
-Sorting the equipment - 29th January
-Taking the photographs (Photoshoot) - 6th Febuary - 13th Febuary
- Editing and sorting through the photographs - 13th Febuary -

Equipment

I've already spoke about the equipment in my presentation but I will need:
- Camera (Cannon LSDR 750D) + Mobile phone camera to take recce of the locations
- Tripod
- Lights
- SD Card + (Spare SD Card in case of corruption or file loss)
- Batteries
- Any props and costumes?

Props and Models

My main models will be 'Madison Fearn' a student from my college, I may need more models but I also may not need more models depending on the originality and uniqueness of each shot, showing diversity and producing a visually interesting piece. I want the model posing in different positions to show variety and to capture the mood of each shot. The only props I may need is costumes, such as a black hood or such for the model to wear, any other props that will be added will need to have a very important purpose for being there and will be recorded later on.

Health and Safety Considerations

Obviously with any kind of shoot Health and Safety needs to be considered, such as; gaining permissions of the models and any locations that require permission, recce's need to be produced which are essentially a practice shot photographing the location and any other shots that need practicing. A risk assessment needs to be made to evaluate all the risks, including any injuries and damage to the equipment that could occur. I will have to get the model or anyone in the shot to sign a consent form. And also email any privately owned businesses or areas to gain permission from them if I use such locations in my shot, but I plan on using public areas, such as landscapes in my photographs so this wont be necessary.

Legal and Ethical Considerations

I need to take into account copyright issues, I need to be careful to not include any privately owned businesses logos, and also to not include in my photographs that are under the copyright law. I will need to get my models to sign a model release form, which basically states that I have their permission to photograph them, to get their permission I will make them sign a form. I will take my photographs in public areas so to not infringe the copyright law of some locations, but I will take my photographs in secluded areas where there are no random people, this will make the model release part of the project much easier, I also don't want random people in my photographs, apart from the ones in my photographs of the town centre and in busy places, it creates the atmosphere. Misrepresentation is an issue during this project and basically means that the theme or message represented in the photographs can be interpreted in different ways, which can be found as offensive. I will avoid this by making my message and theme as clear as possible, make it very obvious through the different photographic elements and genres.

Contingencies

My contingency idea is to show the contrast between nature and the city centre, showing that we are taking over nature, this is similar to my other idea showing the contrast as well through portrait photography, this is in case this is too complicated or I cant find any models. So if the model is not available I will have to photograph without. If I cannot gain permissions for all the people in the busy place being town, I will have to re-photograph the area when it is less busy or edit the people out of the photograph, making the background less focused. If I cannot gain permissions for certain areas that I have planned to photograph, I will need to find a new area to photograph.
